Care in Action welcomed more than 200 children and carers to its sixth annual Talents in Action festival, in partnership with the Lviv City Council’s Department for Children’s Affairs.
This amazing annual event sees children from children's homes and foster families discovering new interests and showing off their talents while enjoying a mix of music, sport and cultural activities. Some children tell us they look forward to the festival the whole year!
For carers this is a welcome opportunity to access training while the children are entertained and to enjoy the festival as a family. Securing a place in school can be a challenge for a child from a care background in Ukraine. Our workshops help to equip foster parents to achieve inclusion in the education system through effective communication, counteracting stereotypes and understanding their rights.
The media attention for the festival provided a great platform to raise awareness in the region of the importance of including vulnerable children in school and society.
While the youngest children were playing with entertainers, children of other age groups were immersed in workshops like floorball, boxing, painting, robotics, clay moulding, an interesting English lesson, playing musical instruments, cooking, needlework and Irish dance. Group of teenagers participated in the active quest, where they tried out different professions.
At the festival, everyone could have face-painting or mehndi on their hands. At the end of the day, everyone enjoyed a wonderful concert from talented children, volunteers and invited famous guests of the city.
Our large team of volunteers and many local business partners make this an exceptional event and we are grateful for all of the support that brings happiness and new opportunities for children in care.
