Youth activities: resilience and hope for the future

We helped 90 young people this summer to build their resilience and learn life and work skills, as part of the STEP Program. Then in two adventure camps, 50 of these teenagers went kayaking, had art therapy and even helped with environment action. The two adventure camps were made possible by BILD hilft e.V. ‘Ein Herz für Kinder’. The new confidence and ideas continued when the teenagers went on to organise events in their own communities!

Adventure Therapy and Career Development

Over the summer 81 young people from East and West Ukraine joined our two STEP Life Skills Camps: a two-day camp focused on building a career, and at a three-day camp they took on the challenge of scaling Hoverla, the highest peak in the Carpathian Mountains. Both camps strengthened young people’s skills to succeed in life. There was an enthusiastic response!

Sponsoring new beginnings for Angela and the Tyman family

Angela's sister has started her own manicure business, and the Tyman family are safe in Germany. Their father says “We are incredibly grateful to Care in Action sponsors for supporting our family in the toughest months of our life. They gave us hope where we didn’t see even a ray of light.” We can now sponsor new children in Ukraine and help them towards independence.

IT Training and Creative Hub: children are Ukraine’s future

Our Creative Hub, IT Training and services show that we can protect children’s education, as children are Ukraine’s future. 30 young people have enrolled in our IT Training held in partnerships with Intellias. At our Hub, we are helping children to deal with stress from the war now to make it easier for them to focus during lessons when school reopens.

Helping displaced people start again in Ukraine

Local organisations like Care in Action are leading Ukraine's aid effort, and essential to helping the 7 million displaced people within Ukraine. So every one of the 198 people cared for in our shelters, every mother we help to find a job, every child we help to enrol in a new school in the relative safety of Lviv is significant.

Let’s reopen schools: helping refugees to move out of classrooms

In July we are helping refugees move out of school halls and into our hostels so classrooms can reopen, and Director Jasmine Lehnis-Leitao met some of them in her visit to Lviv. By asking donors to fund another 85 people in hostels, we can meet the essential need for children in Lviv to benefit from teaching, social interaction and routine in school.

Our Creative Hub helps children and parents adapt

We are happy to report that our Creative Hub, opened on June 1st, is serving children and parents who have lost their homes in the war. The child-friendly spaces and range of activities give children who are living in hostels and halls a chance to play, enjoy learning and adjust to life in a new city. These are important steps in rebuilding lives, and parents are making new friends and looking for work.

A month without sunlight before moving to Lviv

One of our hostels is home to 40 people who fled Russian aggression: here families have a safe place to stay in Lviv, along with care and counselling from Care in Action, so they can plan their next steps. We would like to thank Razom for Ukraine for financing 40 places at this hostel since May 2022. In total they have funded 4,360 beds for a night!

Refugees find safety in hostel sponsored by Lions Club Karlsruhe-Baden

Some refugees in our hostel barely escaped the missile strike in Kramatorsk. Many went through heart-breaking experiences to get to safety. Thanks to our donors' generosity, we can provide housing for 125 children and their families who, leaving their entire lives behind, fled their hometowns and villages to find shelter and security.

Over 1,400 boxes of aid - thousands of life stories

Hundreds of families and thousands of children and adults who arrived in Lviv after being displaced within Ukraine received humanitarian aid from Care in Action between March and May 2022. Behind these statistics lie hundreds of living stories: real faces that show sincere smiles and tears.
