At Care in Action we have a plan for the year which shifts from shelter, which was the major focus of 2022, to providing more services for children and youth that will protect their development which is interrupted by war.
In 2022 we moved quickly in response to war, opening shelters to house and give aid to people who were fleeing their homes. We became one of the rare shelters with a focus on integration and help for displaced people to seek work and longer term housing. Truck loads of aid were given to our team to distribute. In four regions of Ukraine we worked with partners to give food and aid to desperate families.
In 2022 we also opened a Creative Hub for children to give them a safe place to learn, study and have therapy. And our programs continued to support children, with mobile teams of volunteers and a high level of individual support from our Sponsorship, while also providing a vital safety net for foster families.
In 2023 the majority of our work will be for children’s development and protection. The need for shelter for refugees has changed as there is less movement of people, and government and NGOs have built housing solutions. Major projects we will implement are:
To deliver these programs to a high standard, and also make use of the new opportunities for funding, we are increasing our human resources to bring in added expertise in fundraising and management. We are including support systems for our projects, such as vehicle maintenance and office space, but also for our team, such as access to a therapist and additional training to help in challenging circumstances. In this way we are investing in sustainable growth and building the capacity for growth in Ukraine. Quality, transparency and the use of best practice are values that Care in Action was founded on and that are embedded within our program and support plans.
The support of our donors has made it possible for us to be at the frontline of response to the humanitarian crisis, and to be a safety net for children and families in this time of war, while still staying true to “helping people to help themselves”. Thank you, from all of us, for helping children in Ukraine in this time of war, for investing in Ukraine's future.
"Children who were left without a home, who have no friends here, have found support in your organization. I am very happy that they are surrounded by attentive and caring people." Valentina Ladykova
