Over the past six months, we have implemented several important humanitarian projects to support children from internally displaced families, families in need, orphans and children deprived of parental care.
Since March 2022 we have been giving shelter to internally displaced families, while helping them to integrate and become independent. To help these families with the essentials when moving into longer-term housing, we created the Warm Starter Kits project, which supported 82 families (196 children and 115 adults).
“My Mum died a few months ago, so my husband and I decided to take care of my two younger brothers, as my Dad is in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This kit is a lifesaver for us, because we have two children of our own. We simply can’t afford to provide for all the children's needs, as my husband is self-employed and I’m on maternity leave. When we moved into my parents’ home, this kit helped us with the essentials to settle in. Thank you!” - Kateryna
These kits helped 52 families who fled their homes due to the war (including 19 families in Dnipro and 4 in Donetsk), as well as 28 families with difficult life circumstances from Lviv region, and 2 foster families from the Donetsk region.
We would like to thank our sponsors Ukraine Charity, SternStunden (for the families who visit our Creative Hub), Iryna Yakuts, who organised the La Cursa de la Cabra charity race in Spain to raise funds, and all our donors who make our work possible.
"Thank you very much for the kit. My son Andriy and I are displaced from the Sumy region. I am a single mother and don't have much financial support, and Andriy has autism, so a significant amount of my income goes to rent and his rehabilitation. We appreciate the chance to save money and have the kit that we need."
395 sets of thermal underwear were delivered across the Lviv region for children from families who were forced to leave their homes, as well as for orphans and children deprived of parental care. For this we thank our sponsors Oleksandr Lyubarev, London Ukrainian Centre, and Lions Club Karlsruhe-Baden.
Our long-standing partners Green Cotton Group ensured a comfortable, warm sleep for 2,700 children by donating colourful pyjamas, which we are distributing to the children and families we support with our projects. In addition, Green Cotton Group gave large quantities of dresses, sweaters, underwear and leggings. We are grateful for these wonderful quality clothes that bring great joy to the children who receive them.
"My son didn't want to take off his pyjamas all day after he tried them on!" - displaced mother
We also purchased 41 pairs of winter shoes and 38 pairs of trainers for children from displaced families and in difficult life circumstances thanks to the support of Sternstunden, the London Ukrainian Centre and a donor from the Netherlands, Xander de Boer. Another 350 pairs of brand new shoes from our American partners DTCare were distributed to children from internally displaced families and families in need in the Lviv region.
We are grateful to everyone who contributed to helping children and families, giving them warmth, comfort and new opportunities!
